Medical Communication Systems Inc. (MCS), a privately-held medical informatics company, announced recently that it participated through its iPatientCare EHR in pilot tests for The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology’s (CCHIT®) new electronic health record (EHR) certification program in Clinical Research. CCHIT also recently launched EHR certification programs in Women’s Health (obstetrics) and Oncology.

The new certifications are part of the CCHIT Certified® 2011 certification programs, which include a rigorous inspection of integrated EHR functionality, interoperability and security according to criteria independently developed by the CCHIT’s multi-stakeholder, expert work groups using CCHIT’s published testing methods. The pilot tests in which MCS participated are conducted as an inspection to assist in ensuring the validity of certification test steps.

iPatientCare is an innovative EHR and integrated Practice Management solution. It enables healthcare providers to make primary care accessible, continuous, comprehensive, family-centered, coordinated and effective while bringing patient to the center of the healthcare system.

“We agree with CCHIT’s mission of ‘accelerating the adoption of robust, interoperable health information technology’ and were excited to take part in the pilot tests,” explained Udayan Mandavia, President and CEO of MCS – iPatientCare. “We serve oncology and many other specialties, and our health information exchange supports Integrating Healthcare Enterprise’s (IHE) standards which enables physicians’ participation in clinical research activities side-by-side while delivering patient care. iPatientCare has been deeply involved in evolving and implementing standards within the industry and is committed to remain compliant with the most recent standards and certifications.”
